Despite placing tenth in the league

In the Bundesliga table, runner-up VfB Stuttgart is only in tenth place at the winter break. They are four points behind fourth place, which entitles them to participate directly in the Champions League. VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth encourages his team and looks at the positive developments. “We delivered, in all competitions,” said the 45-year-old in an interview with “Stuttgart newspaperand “Stuttgarter Nachrichten”.
In the Bundesliga, apart from last season, we have as many points as VfB last had 17 years ago. “In the DFB Cup and Champions League it’s entirely up to us whether we take the next step. In other words: all doors are open,” said Wohlgemuth. “We were onlookers for many years and watched the others at their international competitions. It was completely clear that we first had to gain our experience in the triad of competitions.”
VfB Stuttgart: Big praise for Coach Hoeneß
The VfB sports director particularly praised coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “The coach, supported by his coaching team, is doing an excellent job. “He led our team out of the relegation battle and into table regions that seemed out of reach for VfB for years,” said Wohlgemuth. “Sebastian makes individual players better, and he has formed a group that follows a common game idea on the pitch.”
A praise that is statistically reflected: Of the 25 biggest market value winners in the Bundesliga in the calendar year 2024, VfB has the most of all teams with five. Another player, Waldemar Anton (28; BVB), played for the Swabians until the summer.
