CVatican City, 24 Dec. (askanews) – In a wheelchair, Pope Francis opened the Holy Door in St. Peter’s Basilica, officially starting the ordinary Holy Year of 2025 focused on the theme of “Hope”. The pontiff arrived in the Basilica at 7 pm and pronounced the formulas and prayers required, then a reader proclaimed the Gospel according to St. John. The Pope then approached the Jubilee door, the last on the right of the five bronze doors that give access to the basilica, built by the sculptor Vico Consorti in 1949, he knocked as per tradition and the bronze doors opened.
The opening of the Holy Door, a sign of the passage opened by Christ, therefore began the Holy Year.
