Elections in Heuvelland declared invalid: residents have to go to the polls again

The Council for Election Disputes has upheld the objection of a candidate from the opposition party N-VA Plus against the municipal elections in Heuvelland. Jef Huyghe filed a complaint because irregularities allegedly occurred at the polling stations that may have influenced the results. Consequently, the election result in Heuvelland is invalid. “To be clear: according to the ruling, the political parties or the municipal council are not to blame,” said Mayor Wieland De Meyer (Municipal Interests), who can still appeal.
