Australian tennis player Max Purcell voluntarily undergoes an interim suspension under the anti-doping program. This was announced by the responsible International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia).
The 26-year-old Purcell, who won the US Open final this year in a doubles match with compatriot Jordan Thompson against the German duo Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz, admitted a violation relating to the use of a prohibited method, Itia wrote in a statement Opinion.
Self-submitted application
The Australian requested an interim ban that came into force on December 12, 2024. During this time, Purcell will not be allowed to participate in or attend any official tennis tournaments. The time he serves under the provisional ban will be counted towards the possible final sanction.
With Yannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek there were recently two prominent doping cases within a few weeks. Both top stars apparently received special treatment, which sparked heated discussions about the credibility of tennis.
