The 2025 Darts World Cup ended early for Martin Schindler after the bitter second-round defeat against Callan Rydz.
Martin Schindler’s opening game at the 2025 Darts World Cup was caused by doubles. The 28-year-old only hit three of his 28 attempts (10.7 percent).
“It’s absolutely not satisfactory,” Schindler summed up the 0:3 in the sets against Callan Rydz to “Sport1”: “I’m up there feeling like I’m throwing doubles for the first time. I had no feeling at all about the doubles Up there, that was really a disaster.”
Schindler scrapes past nine-darter
Schindler initially got off to a promising start at the Alexandra Palace in London. “The Wall” played eight perfect darts in the legs of the first set when the score was 2-1, only narrowly missing the nine-darter on double 12. Rydz still got the leg and the set. As the match progressed, Schindler only won one leg.
“I actually only worked on the doubles before the World Championships because I know that timing is the most important thing at the World Championships,” said Schindler angrily. He never gave up, but “it’s not a good feeling inside when you’re standing there and you’ve already lost legs and sets.”
Shortly after his exit from the Darts World Cup, Schindler also tried to find something positive: “I’m glad I gave you a little heart attack. It shouldn’t be like that today,” the right-hander addressed the German fans and promised: “I’ll be back here next year.”
Pietreczko and Hempel in demand at the Darts World Cup
After his best year to date on the PDC tour – including two tournament victories on the European Tour – Schindler traveled to the Darts World Cup with great expectations. Germany’s number one stated that reaching the round of 16 was his goal in advance. Schindler had reached the third round at the 2023 and 2024 World Championships – his best results to date for the most important gymnast of the season.
The German hopes for the Darts World Cup 2025 now rest on Ricardo Pietreczko and Florian Hempel, both of whom appeared on Monday evening (in the live ticker on sport.de) complete their second round encounters.
