Naturism, or FKK for short, began in Germany in the 19th century. There are now nudist beaches all over Europe. But Spain now went one step further: two cinemas now offered shows for people without clothing. The aim was to break down taboos.
Naturism in the cinema
On December 15th, around a hundred spectators showed up in Valencia and Barcelona to see the Christmas horror film from 2023 “Tu no eres yo” (translated: “You are not me”) – but without a cover. This film was chosen because some crew members were themselves involved in the nudist movement, according to “Euronews”. Director Marisa Crespo used older people for a scene in the film adaptation in which they perform a ritual naked. “Tu no eres yo” is currently neither in cinemas nor available for streaming in Germany.
Freedom also has its limits
Despite the freedom that the audience was able to enjoy in these two cinema halls, there were some simple rules to follow, as “Bild” reports. You had to come to the performance dressed and were only allowed to take off your clothes in the cinema. The seats had to be covered with towels and the clothes had to be put back on before the visitors would leave the cinema.
“A twisted image of nudity”
The aim of the event was for people to learn again to see nudity as something natural and to accept it. “It’s about desexualizing and decommercializing nudity,” said Segmin Rovira, president of the Federation of Naturists and Nudists in Catalonia. “Many young people are given a distorted image of nudity and feel like they have to hide with their natural bodies.”
One viewer told Spanish newspaper AI País: “Nudity goes beyond taking off clothes. In fact, you take away the shame and the layers and the impositions that make you difficult.”
