The British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is allowed to sell its lung cancer drug Tagrisso in the EU for another indication.

The European Commission has approved the drug to treat an advanced form of non-small cell lung cancer with certain gene mutations, the company announced on Monday.

The approval is likely to help AstraZeneca boss Pascal Soriot on the way to his goal of almost doubling group sales by the end of the decade. In the first nine months of the current year, the group generated almost 4.9 billion US dollars (4.7 billion euros) with Tagrisso – that was a good 12 percent of total sales.

In London, AstraZeneca’s shares gained 1.54 percent to GBP 104.14 in Monday trading.
