Moritz Wagner is an important player for the Orlando Magic and is considered by many experts to be the best bench player of the current NBA season. But the German international is out with immediate effect.

Basketball world champion Moritz Wagner’s NBA season ended prematurely after a torn cruciate ligament. The 27-year-old injured his left knee in the first quarter of his Orlando Magic’s game against the Miami Heat (121:114). The bitter diagnosis followed that evening.

“Moritz Wagner underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan today and the results showed that Wagner suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament,” the Magic said. He is now scheduled to undergo surgery and will not be used for the rest of the season. Brother Franz has also been missing from the Magic since the beginning of the month with a torn abdominal muscle.

The Orlando Magic had the greatest comeback in their history against Miami. Orlando was down by 25 points at one point, but won the fourth quarter 37:8 and the game. Cole Anthony played a decisive role with 35 points, including 27 in the second half alone. The German professional Tristan da Silva had eight points, two rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes of playing time. With 18 wins from 30 games, the Magic are fourth in the Eastern Conference.
