The first big chance came after 24 minutes by Tzolis, who kicked wildly in the aftermath of a corner. Vanaken then put Moris to work with a good shot from outside the box. Nilsson also could not outwit his ex-goalkeeper. On the other side, Mignolet prevented the 1-0 with a great save on an attempt by Ivanovic. Just before half time it was a hit for the man-in-form at Union. The Croat made a phenomenal rush and then outpaced Mignolet.
After the break, Club had an excellent opportunity to level the score again, but Skov Olsen’s shot went sky high. An expensive miss as it turned out, because not much later Union doubled the score. Nielsen, of all people, unfortunately processed the ball into his own goal after an attempt by David. However, the Unionists could not enjoy their comfortable lead for long because just under seven minutes later, substitute Talbi scored the tying goal on a pass from Tzolis, who kept a good overview.
Blauw-zwart smelled blood afterwards and found the equalizer in the final quarter through Nilsson, who pushed the ball against the ropes in the restart after a save by Moris. In the closing seconds, Union almost kept the three points at home, but Mignolet saved the Bruges furniture with a nice save on Ivanovic’s header.
