Manchester City is still in the biggest crisis of star coach Pep Guardiola’s term in office. The English football series champions lost on matchday 17 Premier League fully deserved with 1:2 Aston Villa.
It was the ninth defeat in the last twelve competitive games, in which Guardiola’s top-class team managed only one win. City also lost fifth place to the team Birmingham.
“It wasn’t good enough, not even from me”said star striker Erling Haaland on “TNT”. The self-confidence of the city professionals is not the best, such a negative run would occur “every person” meet. With regard to Guardiola, he added: “He will find solutions, he has done that every year. We still believe in him.”
Bayern shock Jhon Duran (16th) and Morgan Rogers (65th) scored for Villa, who weren’t exactly in top shape with three wins from twelve games. Stefan Ortega Moreno in the City goal prevented a major defeat, former DFB captain Ilkay Gündogan was substituted after a poor performance (72nd). Phil Foden (90th + 3) ensured cosmetic results.
Guardiola with six new players
After just 17 seconds, Duran tested Ortega Moreno for the first time, who had been given preference over the out-of-form Ederson. In general, Guardiola tried a few things, swapping six players after the unfortunate derby defeat United (1:2), including Kevin De Bruyne. Ortega Moreno also made a strong save against Pau (2nd), but he was powerless against Duran after a counterattack. Foden (35th) came closest to equalizing, but Villa remained more dangerous.
In the second half, the home team repeatedly switched gears well and duped the City defense. The beautifully played 2-0 by Rogers, who was trained at the City Academy, was the logical consequence, Guardiola waved it off in disappointment.
