DEG scores points in the far north

After the worst home defeat in their DEL history, the Düsseldorfer EG surprisingly scored points against the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven and stayed at the bottom of the table in the German Ice Hockey League. In the 1:2 (1:1, 0:0, 0:0, 0:1) after extra time against the runner-up, DEG sold themselves dearly on Friday evening, the bottom team is now four points behind the Augsburger Panthern and Iserlohn Roosters.

Iserlohn gained some breathing room, the Roosters moved a little away from Düsseldorf with a 4:2 (1:0, 2:0, 1:2) over the Grizzlys Wolfsburg. Augsburg had no chance against the Straubing Tigers; after a weak start, they lost 1:9 (0:4, 1:2, 0:3).

Ingolstadt victorious, polar bears stumble

League leaders ERC Ingolstadt beat Schwenninger Wild Wings 5:3 (2:2, 0:0, 3:1), defending champions and pursuers Eisbären Berlin, however, stumbled and lost 2:3 at home against Löwen Frankfurt. The capital city team took the lead 2-0 thanks to Laine Byron and Kai Wissmann. But in the middle of the game the game tipped over and Chris Wilkie, Cameron Brace and Carter Rowney turned the game in favor of the Hessians.

Düsseldorf, which lost 8-0 to Red Bull Munich last Sunday, showed a different face in the north. After falling behind early thanks to Miha Verlic’s goal (8th), Alexander Ehl (12th) quickly struck back. It wasn’t until overtime that Phillip Bruggisser (62′) made Bremerhaven’s victory perfect.

On Sunday (1:45 p.m.) DEG will face Augsburg in the basement duel. “It was important that we didn’t let ourselves down and bury our heads in the sand,” said DEG defender Moritz Wirth at MagentaSport about the slap against Munich: “We can take a lot of positive things from the game.” Taylor Leier scored a hat trick for Straubing (14th/34th/40th). Augsburg’s only goal was scored by Nicholas Baptiste (28th), who was signed just a few days ago.

Sharks with a late knockout in Nuremberg

In the end, the Haie lost 2:3 (2:1, 0:0, 0:1, 0:1) to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers after overtime. Nuremberg’s Evan Barratt scored the decisive goal in overtime in the third minute of extra time.

Roman Kechter gave the Ice Tigers the lead in the first third in front of a good 5,800 spectators (6th). Adam Almquist (11th) and Louis-Marc Aubry (19th) turned the game around before the first siren. Will Graber finally scored the late equalizer (59th).

The Haie are in sixth place in the table (47 points), the Ice Tigers have 38 points after their seventh win in a row after overtime and are in tenth place. The table is led by ERC Ingolstadt with 58 points.
