Willem II was eliminated on Thursday evening in the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup by the amateurs of Noordwijk. The team, currently number 16 in the second division, won 2-1 against the Tilburg team. Willem II is number 11 in the Eredivisie.
Striker Emiel Wendt gave Noordwijk the lead in the second minute. The captain defeated Austrian Raffael Behounek in the air with his head (1-0). After fifteen minutes Wendt had another chance, but this time he shot just wide.
The second goal for Noordwijk came after halftime. Willem II keeper Connor van den Berg made a blunder on a shot from Arantis Roep in the 56th minute.
Willem II coach Peter Maes intervened and brought Jeremy Bokila into the team. The striker only needed two minutes to score the tying goal in the 63rd minute (2-1). Noordwijk staggered and saw Willem II’er Emilio Kehrer shoot a free kick against the post.
