Dominik Schwaiger puts his skis away and begins a new phase of his life. The 33-year-old falls for the “Step incredibly difficult“.
After an exciting time as a ski racer, with 116 World Cup starts, once at the Olympics and twice at the World Ski Championships, Dominik Schwaiger is ending his career. Now be it “Time to say goodbye“, wrote the 33-year-old from WSV Königssee in his Instagram post. There, the speed specialist reviewed his time from starting out on skis as a kid to becoming a World Cup ski racer and explained his move:
“Unfortunately, my persistent back problems, which are not getting better despite numerous treatments, leave me no other choice“says Schwaiger.”Even though this step is incredibly difficult for me.”
The athlete from Königssee thanked everyone who made this wild journey possible for him. “Being able to turn my passion into a career was a dream come true – which taught me more than just how to ski. It was a great time with you“Now he’s looking forward to everything,”what awaits me in my new phase of life.”
World Cup debut in 2011 in Sölden
Schwaiger made his debut in Sölden at the start of the 2011 season. The best result in the World Cup is fourth place in the 2015 parallel giant slalom in Alta Badia and fifth place in the 2021 downhill run in Bormio. He also became German champion four times.
