Twin brothers Sander and Arnout Brinks from Assen, better known as Tangarine, are not going to the Eurovision Song Contest. The two had put themselves forward this fall to travel to the song festival on behalf of the Netherlands, but the choice fell on Claude.
The folk and soft rock duo decided to sign up after their performances in the TV program Best Singers. Their participation was so successful that they applied for the Eurovision Song Contest. According to the management of the two, this was ‘the right time’.
However, the selection committee’s choice fell on Claude. The singer was one of the 331 entries, reports broadcaster AVROTROS. Well-known artists such as Anouk and Gerard Joling previously announced that they had submitted a song. Claude broke through with his Dutch-French song Ladada.
Joost Klein was given the opportunity to take revenge after his missed participation in the final, but turned down AVROTROS’ offer. That opened the door to other candidates, including the Brinks brothers. They wrote their song at the kitchen table a few months ago. “As a songwriter, they write a lot of songs every year, but with this song they immediately had a Eurovision feeling,” the management said.
The Eurovision Song Contest takes place from May 13 to 17 in the St. Jakobshalle in Basel, Switzerland. It is the third time that Switzerland has hosted the event.
