The Mexican Sergio Perez loses his cockpit Red Bull Racing. The team is reacting to a weak season for the Mexican. Liam Lawson will be world champion Max Verstappen’s new teammate.
Formula 1 driver Sergio Perez is leaving Red Bull. The racing team announced this on Wednesday evening (December 18, 2024). A day later, the Austrians announced that Liam Lawson would take his place. The New Zealander has already made eleven racing appearances with the sister team in the 2023 and 2024 seasons Racing Bulls came.
“Driving for Red Bull was an unforgettable experience and I will always cherish the successes we achieved together”said Perez. The reason for the separation from Perez despite an ongoing contract is the 34-year-old’s ongoing low form.
Weak noble helper
Since 2021 he has been for Red Bull on the road, he was in the shadow of the four-time world champion Verstappen and was always planned as a valuable helper. The past season in particular was a disappointment.
Perez only finished eighth in the drivers’ championship, meaning his team missed out on another triumph in the constructors’ championship: Red Bull only finished third behind McLaren and Ferrari. However, the team supported Perez for a long time and even extended his contract until 2026 during the course of the season.
No surprise
The end for the 2023 vice world champion no longer comes as a surprise. Lawson joined from October 2024 Racing Bulls replaced the Australian Daniel Ricciardo. Yuki Tsunoda was also recently considered as a replacement for Perez.
The Japanese also comes from our own stable and has been driving for since 2021 Racing Bulls and has been Lawson’s teammate for the past few months. Both were on par with their performances.
