“We see that fireworks are becoming increasingly extreme and heavier and that fireworks are being used more and more in situations that are very dangerous for the living environment,” says Jack Sijm, fireworks expert at the police.
Fireworks, such as cobras, are mass explosives, he says. For example, it contains flash powder, which is very flammable and sensitive to inflammation. “If you put several of those pieces together and one explodes, they all explode. That is extremely dangerous, especially if it is in a residential environment.”
‘Days of upset’
“You see that the reports that we as the police receive are very diverse: people who are alarmed, not only because they are very frightened by the violent explosions, because the windows often shake, but also, for example, reports about pets that are be a blow.”
