Coenbrug is becoming quieter: repairs and insulation should reduce problems

The bridge valves of the Coen Bridge have been broken since 2021. In May of that year, one bridge valve fell hard, while the other was up. The accident happened after the work was done quieter asphalt and the clatter of the bridge valves had just been completed.

The work just did not give the desired result. Despite the work, residents were still bothered by noise. This became especially clear to local residents when trucks passed by.

Insulating plating to reduce noise pollution

Ship traffic cannot pass under the Coen Bridge due to the broken bridge flaps and something is now being done about this. The tender has been completed and in addition to the repair of the valve, there will also be insulating plating under the bridge, which should reduce noise pollution.

According to the contractor, the work is ‘complex’ and will start on January 20, 2025 and will be completed on May 31, 2025 according to the current schedule. This is later than the start of the sailing season. The municipality of Zaanstad’s goal to complete the work before April 1 will therefore be forced to be postponed.

During the work, the blocking of the A8 will be limited as much as possible to the evening and night.
