Marisa Paredes was born on April 3, 1946 in Spain and later studied at the Escuela de Arte Dramático in Madrid. At the age of 14, she made her debut in the acting world in the film “Esta Noche Tampoco” (translated: “Tonight”) by José Osuna. In the 1960s and 1970s, the Madrid native made her way through supporting roles before making her breakthrough in 1980 in the comedy “Opera Prima” by Fernando Trueba as Zolla Gomez. Since then, the actress has been an integral part of Spain’s cinematic landscape.

After appearing in Trueba’s work, she appeared in several films by important Spanish filmmakers – for example in “Tras el cristal” (translated: “Cage of Glass”) by Agustí Villaronga and in “Entre tinieblas” (“The Monastery of Holy Madness”) and in “Tacones le janos” (in German: “High Heels”) by Pedro Almodódovar.

In 2000, the Spaniard was also elected president of the Film Academy in Madrid. She held this position until 2003. 15 years later – in 2018 – this very institution awarded Mimin the Goya Honorary Prize – a prize for extraordinary achievements. At that time, the trophy was presented to her by her daughter María Isasi and the director Agustí Villaronga. As mentioned above, she also worked with the latter. In total, Paredes appeared in more than 75 films.
