For many Zoetermeer children it is very normal: cycling to the sports club or to the secondary school at the Van Doornenplantsoen. According to the ANWB, this is not so obvious at all: “Did you know that at least one child per class does not have their own bicycle?”

That is why the ANWB collects used bicycles to refurbish them and then donate them to children. You can do your part.

Donate a bicycle

Is there an old (children’s) bicycle in your shed and you no longer do anything with it yourself? Then you can donate it to the Children’s bicycle plan of the ANWB. The organization is looking for bicycles that are suitable for children from 6 to 18 years old. As long as the bicycle is in reasonable condition, you can donate it.

It is not possible to donate scrap bicycles that are completely rusted and can no longer be restored. In addition, mountain bikes, BMX bicycles, electric bicycles, folding bicycles, racing bicycles, tandems and bicycles with a derailleur not accepted.

Drop off or have it picked up

There are dozens of return points throughout the Netherlands where you can take your bicycle. So it is not surprising that there are also locations in Zoetermeer. This is possible with:

  • Ekoware Foundation, Edisonstraat 104, Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Kneppers Autobedrijf BV, Rokkeveenseweg Zuid 159, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Richard Kneppers can also collect the bicycle from your home by appointment.

Are you unable to drop off your donated bicycle? The ANWB can also collect bicycles. Fill for that this online form in. Volunteers from the Children’s Bicycle Plan will then visit you within eight weeks.

Request a bicycle

It is not possible to register your child for a free bicycle from the Children’s Bicycle Plan. The ANWB reports: “Many municipalities have their own regulations regarding issuing bicycles to children in poverty. A social organization such as Stichting Leergeld is often involved. There are also often arrangements for refugees or status holders. Inquire at the municipality how they arranged this and how they can help you further.”
