Xabi Alonso gifted the team with copies of the championship trophy

Xabi Alonso cares about his team. That’s why the Bayer Leverkusen coach thought about and implemented a nice gesture.
He thought a lot about it: Last season, Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso and his team won the double of the cup and the German championship. The coach wanted to thank his coaching team for this – and had duplicates of the championship trophy made.
The copies look almost real, they are just smaller and stand on a dark wooden base. Marcel Daum posted a photo of it on Instagram in his story. Daum has been an assistant coach at Bayer since 2018. He thanked his boss for the gift.
Alonso told “Bild” about the idea behind it: “I have a copy at home of all the trophies I have won. Now also of this championship trophy. This success is a nice memory for everyone. That’s why I did it.” Leverkusen’s sports director Simon Rolfes told the newspaper: “It’s a great gesture from Xabi and great proof that the coaches are a very good team.”
Specifically, according to the newspaper, the mini trophies cost around 6,000 euros each, so the total cost of the campaign was more than 60,000 euros. Alonso’s order was carried out by the Bremen silver manufacturer “Koch und Bergfeld”, which is authorized to produce official duplicates.
The success of the three Bayer titles so far (in addition to the double and the Super Cup title in 2024/25) is also special for Alonso personally. The Spaniard became German champion three times as an active professional for FC Bayern and won a total of 18 titles in his sporting career.
