National mourning in France after “hundreds” of people die in a cyclone on the French archipelago of Mayotte

The local authorities of the French overseas department of Mayotte fear “several hundred” deaths after the passage of the devastating Cyclone Chido. Authorities say relief supplies are being delivered by sea and air after a severe cyclone hit the archipelago. French President Emmanuel Macron has now announced that he will travel to Mayotte “in the coming days”. The president also announced that a national mourning will be declared in France.
