Inter Milan delivered a show of force in their pursuit duel with Lazio and increased the pressure on the top teams in Serie A.
With the clear 6-0 (2-0) away win, the Italian football champions distanced themselves from the Romans and reduced the gap to league leaders Atalanta Bergamo (37 points) to three points. However, Inter played one game less than the Europa League winner and second-placed SSC Napoli (35).
Inter gets rid of Leverkusen frustration
A week after the Champions League defeat at Bayer Leverkusen (0-1), Hakan Calhanoglu (41st/hand penalty) and Federico Dimarco (45th) gave the Milanese a comfortable lead at the break. Nicolo Barella (51′) and Denzel Dumfries (53′) then scored a double blow; a completely one-sided second half developed, in which Carlos Augusto (77′) and ex-Gladbacher Marcus Thuram (90′) increased the score even further. Lazio hardly put up any resistance. The Romans remain fifth with 31 points.
