UEFA is distributing 41 million euros at the tournament in Switzerland. All participating countries receive a minimum prize money. The players themselves also benefit.
The women’s European Football Championship next summer in Switzerland will have a record prize money of 41 million euros. The UEFA Executive Committee announced this on Monday in Lausanne. This means that the sum is more than double compared to the EM 2022, where 16 million euros were distributed.
“The higher bonuses demonstrate UEFA’s ongoing commitment to advancing women’s football across Europe. One billion euros will be invested in the further development of the game between 2024 and 2030,” the association said.
In addition to the record prize money, there is also an innovation at the European Championships in Switzerland: for the first time, 30 to 40 percent of the income of the 16 participating national associations must flow directly to the players. If the German national team, led by captain Giulia Gwinn, wins the title, at least a third of the winner’s prize money of around five million euros would be paid out to the players.
Each association that takes part in the tournament receives a guaranteed minimum prize money of 1.8 million euros. In addition, the clubs that provide players for the tournament will be compensated more than in the past with a total of six million euros.
The group draw for the European Championships will take place in the evening from 6 p.m. in Lausanne. The 16 participants are divided into four groups. As European runners-up, Germany is in the first draw and may face hosts Switzerland, world champions Spain or France. The tournament will take place from July 2nd to 27th, 2024.
