Artistic shoes adorn the school in Assen

Special shoes at the CS Vincent van Gogh in Assen. Students were given the assignment to make a shoe for their crafts subject, inspired by a film or TV series.

And that resulted in special creations. Teacher Karin Kingma: “They also had to change the entire shape of the shoe. And beautiful things came out of it!” Before the shoe could be started, another one had to be made mood board be made.

Jill is one of the students who took the plunge and started working with shoe, paint and clay. “I was a bit shocked because I thought, ‘oh my God, what am I going to do?!’, but eventually you get going and figure something out.” Jill made a high-heeled women’s shoe with a chameleon on the heel, paint splatters all over the shoe and a paintbrush across the instep. Her inspiration was the film ‘Tangled‘.

In total, around twenty-five shoe creations were made by the students, all of whom included craft skills in their final exam package. A few examples: A broken ship shoe, a shoe with a sunbathing mermaid on the toe, a shoe with a rat with a ladle as a heel, and a shoe where a chicken is shot out of a cannon.

It is not yet certain what will happen to the shoes. Kingma: “I do have an idea for it, but it hasn’t been fully developed yet. But you will definitely see them again one day!”
