After the post-Red Star outburst, the coach explains at the end of the 0-0 draw with Genoa: “The boys had the desire to win and played as a team. We don’t just blame the attackers”
The stick after the victory against Red Star, Wednesday in the Champions League. The carrot at the end of a 0-0 draw with boos (those from the fans who came for the club’s 125th birthday) against a Genoa team that never had a shot on target. Paulo Fonseca surprises again and after his harsh mid-week outburst he explains that he is satisfied with his team’s performance against Grifone: “I think we played a good match, we created a lot, the players had the desire to win, they played as a team and all that was missing was the goal. And obviously there was a lack of quality in the last few decisions, for all the time we spent in the opponent’s area. We made I think 22 shots, the goal was missing.”

Fonseca also goes against the grain when it comes to missed goals: “Abraham was out with a contusion, Morata hadn’t trained in the last few days. The attackers are criticized but there was a lack of clarity and precision even in the crosses and in the last pass. We wanted to give a victory to our fans, but we tried in every way. Then it’s clear that I’m not happy with the result either.”
