The perceived temperature is minus 4 degrees, but when they are on their motorcycles it will feel like minus 10. Yet more than a hundred motorcycle Santa Clauses and motorcycle Santa Clauses get on ‘their bikes’ this morning at the TT Circuit and then drive straight through Drenthe, Overijssel, Groningen and to drive in Friesland.
“Suffering a day of cold does not compare to the pain that children with cancer suffer,” says Janine Mos of Santa Máxima department in Drenthe.
The motorcycle enthusiasts’ Christmas ride is for a good cause: the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology. Not for medical equipment or care, the money goes to relaxation for children with cancer. Mos: “So that during their heavy treatments in the hospital, they can be busy with something other than being sick.”
Activities and events are organized in the Princess Máxima Center. Both in the children’s rooms and in specially designed areas. The hospital has a theater, library, teen lounge and construction site. In addition to distraction and relaxation, children can also play with each other. Good for their physical, cognitive, emotional, social and spiritual functioning. Parents are of course also welcome to the activities.
