Bosz doesn’t think PSV is a ‘top team’ for a while: ‘It could be even worse’

Bad, worse, worst. In one week, PSV played its worst match twice under the leadership of coach Peter Bosz. The trainer was obviously not satisfied with the defeat against SC Heerenveen (1-0). Yet he does not want to give up. “The shape can return just as quickly.”

“A top team does not lose twice in a row,” is a well-known statement by PSV coach Peter Bosz. For a year and a half, PSV did not lose twice in a row under Bosz. But this week it happened anyway. “And that is why we are not a top team at the moment,” the coach was critical for the second time in a week.

He had called the match against Brest on Tuesday ‘the worst match under his leadership’. He came back to that again on Saturday. “So it could be even worse,” he said an hour after the defeat against SC Heerenveen.

And so PSV is in a dip in form, although they don’t want to make it too big at the club. “We have been playing with almost everyone for a year and a half. It is not that we suddenly can no longer play football,” Veerman responded somewhat irritated after a question about PSV’s current situation.

“If we have to chase the ball so much, there is a lack of energy when you have the ball yourself. I have had the ball 30 meters from the goal a number of times, but then there was a lack of depth,” Veerman explained the defeat.

“You might have thought I was a strange guy on Monday…”

The fact that there was no depth in the team may have been due to the choice of De Jong, Til and Perisic in the starting line-up. But trainer Peter Bosz did not agree with that analysis. “I made a conscious choice for this setup. There is a reason that I don’t let certain boys start. For example, Lang had indicated that he was tired. Then I’m not going to take any risks.”

Bosz was critical, but also quite calm after the second defeat in one week. “You may have thought I was a strange guy when I said on Monday before the match against Brest that a bad match is always around the corner. But you see…”

“Fortunately, the form can return just as quickly,” the trainer added. He did not want to watch the top match against Feyenoord in a week. “Let’s first look at the cup match against HFC. Then we will focus on Feyenoord.”
