man wants to die live in studio

Johan Derksen states that a police officer asked the editors of Today Inside if he could die live on the broadcast. “It’s also stupid to say: ‘I’d rather not.’”

The men of Today Inside are extremely popular with more than a million viewers per evening. For many people they are part of the daily routine: coming home, having a nice meal, sitting on the couch and then having some VI at the end of the evening. Some people become so familiar with the gentlemen that they develop deeper feelings about them.

Death

VI regularly receives requests from organizations that realize a last dream wish for seriously ill children or adults with a short life expectancy. Sometimes, however, that goes very far.

Johan Derksen says that Today Inside received a very intense request once. “We even once had a gentleman ask if he could die here on air.”

Police officer

Colleague René van der Gijp is also aware of this. “A police officer.”

Johan: “Yes. It’s also a bit of a shame to say…”

Table guest Hélène Hendriks: “’I’d rather not.’”

Johan: “I’d rather not, no.”

Dressing room

Hélène states that VI often collaborates with these types of organizations. “We also have them in the locker room regularly.”

Johan: “Yes, that is that last wish organization. We have had boys here who died a day later.”

Hélène: “What I like is that they completely revive and get the adrenaline rush at the last moment. If you can commit to it, you should always do it.”
