16 wins, only three defeats, one of them only because she couldn’t compete, and one tournament victory: Chantal Sauvant is currently one of the hottest horses on the tennis tour – even if the German recently only competed in small tournaments.
In mid-May 2024, Chantal Sauvant lost 3:6 and 4:6 to Frenchwoman Nahia Berecoechea in the second round of the W35 tournament in Platja D’Aro, Spain – after which the 22-year-old did not dive on the tour for more than five months before making her comeback in October.
At the W15 event in Bol (Croatia), after three hard-fought three-set victories in which she lost the first round, the DTB hope went straight back to the semi-finals, where her body thwarted her plans. Sauvant had to miss the semi-final against the Spanish Cristina Diaz Androver.
This was followed by another start in Bol, where the Czech Nikola Breckova was the final stop in the quarter-finals. Sauvant then changed locations and has since played at the W15 tournament in Antalya. There, number 578 in the world rankings was able to increase her successes once again.
Top 500 possible for Sauvant soon?
In mid-November she reached the semi-finals, but lost a tennis thriller against local hero Ilay Yoruk. The following week, however, Sauvant recorded her first tournament victory of 2024 in the same place.
And a lot seems possible again at the moment: After a success against Aya El Aouni from Morocco (number 662 in the world rankings), her eighth win in a row, Sauvant is in the semi-finals.
If the right-hander can continue this trend, she should soon reach new heights. Sauvant is already close to her previous top position in the world rankings (rank 523). Given the last few weeks, the top 500 should be there soon.
