Masters Eisbären Berlin missed the chance to catch up with leaders Ingolstadt in the DEL. There was a massive home defeat against Munich.
Coach Serge Aubin’s team suffered a 1:4 (0:1, 0:1, 1:2) home defeat on matchday 25 and is still three points behind Upper Bavaria (55). The Ingolstadt team lost on Thursday (December 12, 2024) after eight wins in a row against the third-placed Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven (50).
Hager puts Munich in the lead
Patrick Hager, Olympic silver medalist in 2018, gave Munich the lead in the 13th minute, and Nikolaus Heigl increased it to 2-0 in the 33rd minute. Nicolas Krämmer (50th) made the preliminary decision, before shortly before the end (59th) Leo Pföderl, who had extended the Eisbären until 2029 the day before, made cosmetic gains. Maximilian Kastner restored the old gap in the final minute.
Pursuers are gaining ground
Behind the leading trio, the pursuers made up some ground. After the 4:1 (0:0, 1:0, 3:1) against the Kölner Haie, the Adler Mannheim are in fourth place, two points less than Bremerhaven, with Munich (45) three more points behind. The Straubing Tigers stopped their negative trend. After three defeats in a row, the penultimate Iserlohn Roosters won 5:2 (3:0, 0:0, 2:2).
In the basement duel, the Augsburg Panthers celebrated an important 6:1 (0:0, 4:0, 2:1) win against bottom team Düsseldorfer EG and are now five points ahead of the Rhinelanders. Thomas Trevelyan scored three goals. In another duel on Friday evening, the Grizzlys Wolfsburg won against the Nuremberg Ice Tigers 4:3 (0:0, 0:1, 3:2, 1:0) after overtime. Fabio Pfohl scored the winning goal after 1:53 minutes of overtime.
Jeglic with the winning goal
Ingolstadt previously lost 2:3 (1:0, 0:0, 1:2, 0:0, 0:1) in the top game against third-placed runner-up Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven. Ziga Jeglic scored the decisive goal in the penalty shootout to give the guests their fifth success in the last six league games.
Stachowiak saved Ingolstadt at least in extra time
Matthew Abt (46th) and Ross Mauermann (47th) brought the guests from Bremerhaven back into the game in the final third within 40 seconds of Ingolstadt’s lead through Myles Powell (18th).
Wojciech Stachowiak (50th) saved the hosts, who announced the contract extension with their Canadian defender Alex Breton before the start of the game, at least into extra time. Thanks to the one point gained, Ingolstadt is now three points ahead of the Eisbären Berlin – Bremerhaven remains third.
