The “Eras” tour brought Taylor Swift billions in sales. Millions of people spent well over 200 euros on a ticket to see the singer live on her world tour. All gigs were sold out and the concert tour became an event that electrified the live industry.
But Taylor Swift also started out smaller, although success didn’t take long to arrive. In 2007, she played a concert in Anniston, Alabama on March 31st. Swift took a stage in the gym at Saks High School, a suburban public school that serves about 300 students.
Taylor Swift donated proceeds from the high school concert
According to a newspaper clipping still circulating online, the gig cost $20 to get in. Now one might argue that this is pretty steep for a school concert, but as I said, Swift was already on to her ever-expanding career. If you compare the ticket prices with today, then you can only speak of an absolute bargain.
A setlist from the gig can also be found:
- Our Song
- Teardrops on My Guitar
- Should’ve Said No
- Tim McGraw
- Picture to Burn
Incidentally, the proceeds from the performance did not go into Taylor’s pocket, but instead went to the Saks High School football team. Even back then, the singer was a supporter of lawn sports, which now brings in higher ratings than ever before just because of her presence in the stadium for the Kansas City Chiefs (where her boyfriend Travis Kelce plays).
