The feminist rallying cry ‘The personal is political’ has taken on new dimensions in the anti-Semitic climate since October 7, 2023. The slogan once referred to politics that are shaped by life stories and to policies that radically change personal lives. Nowadays the personal and the political are flattened into vain slogans pasted on an XL photo of one’s own face. The “Not in My Name” campaign embodies this activist opportunism, reducing the complex war between Hamas and Israel to a slogan for big egos to flaunt.
