The four men arrested in the investigation into the deadly explosion in The Hague will remain in custody for an additional fourteen days. The four are suspected of arson and causing the explosion, it reports Public Prosecution Service (OM) on Friday after the suspects were brought before the examining magistrate.
The men are also suspected of setting a car on fire. They would also have previously made preparations for setting a fire, according to the Public Prosecution Service.
After the explosion last Saturday at the Tarwekamp in Mariahoeve, in which six people were killed, the police started a large-scale investigation. On Monday, this led to the arrest of three men aged 23 to 33 in their hometowns of Rotterdam and Roosendaal. On Wednesday, a 33-year-old man from Oosterhout was arrested.
Police completed their on-site investigation on Thursday. The investigation into the circumstances continues unabated, the Public Prosecution Service says. It is still not known what caused the devastating explosion.
Earlier this week, the police said they had “concrete indications” that the explosion was “possibly” aimed at the bridal fashion store in the affected building. After the incident, local residents saw a car driving away at high speed, and a burnt-out car was found in the immediate vicinity of the building.
On Tuesday, December 24, the suspects will be brought before the court chamber. There it will be decided whether the pre-trial detention will be extended.
