Segafredo wins 82-81 thanks to an incredible four-point play by the former Efes player with less than a second left
Virtus breaks the curse of losing matches in the sprint and violates the Buesa Arena, 82-81, after a four-point play by Clyburn in the last second of the match. The former Efes is the best of his team with 23 points, Shengelia is also excellent with 16 points. Third victory in the Euroleague for Bologna, but the ranking remains at a deficit. Dusko Ivanovic, making his actual debut on the bench of the V-Blacks, beats the team that has characterized his past more than any other (3 experiences between 2000 and 2021, also with 8 trophies). Rokvapoulos is not enough in Laso, as he signs 19.
BALANCE
—
Virtus reacts right from the start, in a match that starts at a low pace. The man you don’t expect in attack is Alessandro Pajola, who ends the first quarter with 7 points. The Black Vs immediately proved ready to rebound, while Baskonia often passed through the hands of Howard and the very hot Rogkavopoulos. Segafredo works well under the rim, as demonstrated by the scoreboard of the Juventus big men (7 points for Zizic and Shengelia), with the Croatian putting the Basque defense in difficulty with some deep movements under the boards. Laso’s men rely on Howard, who ends the first half with 8 points. The balance, demonstrated by the tie at 38, with which the teams go to rest after 20′, is also evident from some statistics. The hosts shoot 6/14 from 3, while Bologna responds with a good 4/8. However, Vitoria’s team commands the rebounds (15-14).
CLYBURN DECISIVE
—
At the start of the second half the two teams try to increase the pace. Ivanovic’s men rely on Shengelia and Clyburn, but Segafredo fails to materialize some breakaway possibilities and Baskonia, which produces something more in transition and proves more decisive in offensive rebounding, distributing offensive responsibilities between Baldwin, Sedekerskis , Rogkavopoulos and Diop. However, neither team manages to take control of the match (57-56 for the Basques in the 30th minute).
In the fourth period it is again Laso’s number 17 who tries to impact the match, scoring a sensational triple from far away (70-64 with 5′ left), but Cordinier responds with a 4-0 break, which puts the guests back in wake. In the final, Baskonia was ahead by one possession, 77-74 with a few seconds left. Howard scores 1/2 on free throws and Clyburn, on the counterattack, scores -2 (78-76). Rogkavopoulos makes 1/2 from the line and the guest number 8 punishes the turnover, scoring a triple to equalize, also making good Moneke’s foul. The four-point play by the former Efes makes it 82-81 for Segafredo in the 40th minute.
