Local left-wing cooperation in Brabant is making good progress. In almost all municipalities where this was not yet the case, GroenLinks and the PvdA will participate together in the next municipal elections. In the left-wing stronghold of Tilburg, members also voted in favor of a joint list on Thursday evening.
Previously, their fellow party members in Breda, Eindhoven, Helmond and Den Bosch, among others, had preceded them. And even in smaller municipalities where the two parties are not yet in the same faction, this will be the case after the next elections.
More collaborations
In 23 of the 56 Brabant municipalities, GroenLinks and PvdA were already in the same faction or are part of a larger local, left-wing collaboration. This is not yet the case in the cities and in a number of villages. At the next elections in 2026, people will soon be able to vote for a joint list in 34 municipalities.

Get seats
In most villages there was already a joint GroenLinks/PvdA faction, or cooperation in a local left-wing party. In these municipalities, people often vote more right-wing and conservative and the left-progressive parties often need each other to gain seats. You can see this clearly on the map below:

It is therefore special that cooperation is now also being sought in large cities. After all, the parties receive enough votes on their own. GroenLinks is already the largest party in Eindhoven, Tilburg and Helmond. The supporters therefore really choose cooperation out of conviction.
What certainly plays a role in working together is the opportunity to become the largest faction in the municipal council. He may take the lead in the negotiations. And even if that doesn’t work, the bigger the deal, the more weight you have in any negotiations.
