The French superstar has been linked to rape allegations in reports. Now there is a new status at the responsible public prosecutor’s office.

French football superstar Kylian Mbappé is no longer being investigated on suspicion of alleged rape. The public prosecutor’s office in Stockholm announced that the proceedings and investigations had been closed due to a lack of evidence.

“In my assessment, the evidence is insufficient to proceed and the investigation is therefore closed,” prosecutor Marina Chirakova said in a statement. She did not mention the 25-year-old by name.

The investigation revolved around events in October. Mbappé did not travel to the national team at the time, but instead took a short vacation in Sweden as agreed with his club Real Madrid. Subsequently, allegations against Mbappé were made, and Swedish media reported on investigations by the public prosecutor’s office on suspicion of rape.

The alleged act is said to have occurred at the Bank Hotel in the city center. The police confirmed receipt of a complaint. The public prosecutor’s office subsequently announced that it was investigating an alleged rape, but did not name any names. However, several Swedish media outlets, including the public TV broadcaster SVT, named Mbappé without reservation.

Mbappé reacted indignantly and had a defamation lawsuit filed through his lawyer Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard. The 2018 world champion wrote about “fake news” on social media.
