Around three and a half months after being kicked out of the Formula 1 racing team Williams, Logan Sargeant has found a new job. The American, who has also completed an IndyCar test drive, will try his luck in the European Le Mans Series in the LMP2 class from 2025. Another promotion awaits him as early as 2026.
The IDEC Sport team officially announced Sargeant’s move to the endurance series at the beginning of December. For the ex-Formula 1 driver, the move to the European Le Mans Series is synonymous with a return: in 2021 he completed two races in the ELMS, and a short time later he was accepted into the support program at Williams, from where he finally made the jump made it to the premier class.
From 2026, Sargeant will be making the jump to the WEC. The IDEC Sport team collaborates with Genesis Magma Racing, which is preparing its entry into the World Endurance Championship. Former Formula 1 team boss Cyril Abiteboul is in charge of Genesis and justified Sargeant’s commitment in a media round this week.
Sargeant dumped in Formula 1
“We believe Logan deserves another chance in motorsport,” said the Frenchman, who described his new driver as “very humble, very passionate and motivated.” “F1 is very big and of course LMP2 is a little different, but it’s racing. That’s what’s motivating,” said Abiteboul, referring to Sargeant.
The American had to give up his Formula 1 cockpit at Williams this season after the Dutch Grand Prix. Previously, the 23-year-old experienced a season to forget for the second time in a row. Sargeant had a permanent subscription to the red lantern in Formula 1 and repeatedly had serious accidents. Williams ultimately had no choice but to fire him after a total of 36 race starts.
