Instead of preparing for the next games, handball player Nils Kretschmer currently has to take a break. Because the 31-year-old is confronted with serious allegations.
Handball professional Nils Kretschmer from second division team TV Großwallstadt is suspected of doping. His lawyer Felix Rettenmaier confirmed this to the German Press Agency (dpa for short). The 31-year-old backcourt player was provisionally suspended with immediate effect, as the Handball Bundesliga (HBL) announced. The responsible board decided unanimously. The “Bild” newspaper and the “Main-Echo” had previously reported.
The Munich public prosecutor’s office announced that it was conducting an investigation against the accused on suspicion of the unauthorized use of a doping substance. A search of the apartment has already been carried out.
According to “Bild” information, testosterone was found to be in a low range. According to the HBL, “an analytical result that deviated from the norm was found” at Kretschmer during a competition control in the A sample.
Kretschmer has been cooperating “fully with the investigative authorities since he became aware of the allegations. He will thus contribute to clearing them up,” Rettenmaier explained to the dpa.
The lawyer for the traditional Bavarian club Großwallstadt made it clear that the investigation was directed exclusively against Kretschmer and not against the club, other teammates or other employees.
