After the botched autumn championship, VfL Wolfsburg had to win against AS Roma. And Lower Saxony succeeded in triumph.

VfL Wolfsburg has reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League ahead of schedule. Coach Tommy Stroot’s team won 6-1 against AS Roma. Wolfsburg will move into the next round as second in the group after just five games, as Rome can no longer come second due to the direct comparison. The group win goes to Olympique Lyon. The French won all five games.

The goals for Wolfsburg were scored by Alexandra Popp (6th minute), Lineth Beerensteyn (65th) and substitute Sveindis Jonsdottir, who scored four times in less than 30 minutes (68th, 85th, 88th, 90th + 2). Giacinti had meanwhile made it 1-1 for Rome (56th).

VfL Wolfsburg 6:1 (1:0) AS Roma

90th + 2 minutes – GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG! Again it is Jonsdottir who scores. What an evening for the striker.

89th minute – GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG! What a performance by the Icelandic Jonsdottir. A little more than 20 minutes after she came on, the flawless hat trick was completed.

88th minute – Wilms is substituted to applause. Wedemeyer comes into play for them.

85th minute – GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG! That is the decision. Joker Jonsdottir is beautifully staged by captain Svenja Huth with a cross pass. The scorer pushes the ball over the line.

81st minute – That could have been 4-1! Hegering plays a great long ball to Jonsdottir, who crosses it precisely to Blomqvist. But the striker doesn’t hit the ball well and shoots it far over the goal.

78th minute – The guests can’t really put any pressure on, Wolfsburg are still in control here.

71st minute – With this goal, Wolfsburg would move into the quarter-finals early. Now Rome is under pressure.

68th minute – GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG! That’s the double whammy. Jonsdottir, who has just been substituted, takes advantage of a mistake by the Roman Cissoko and overcomes Ceasar in the Italian goal.

65th minute – GOAL FOR WOLFSBURG! And that was very well played. Wolfsburg plays really well near the penalty area. With one-touch football, the ball comes to Beerensteyn, who pushes the ball past the goalkeeper.

61st minute – Now Wolfsburg is challenged here. A draw would have difficult consequences.

56th minute – GOAL FOR ROME! What was that then? A high through ball from Rome leads to the equalizer. Merle Frohms comes out of her goal and wants to pick up the ball. But Lena Lattwein wants to clear the ball, but shoots it against Giacinti, who shoots the rebound into the empty goal. Very bitter for Wolfsburg.

54th minute – A bad pass in the Wolves’ build-up game almost turns into a boomerang, but Rome plays it out a bit imprecisely. So Wolfsburg remains dominant here.

52nd minute – Wolfsburg still has a lot of the ball and gets another shot through Blomqvist, but the ball goes over the crossbar.
