In the CL game against Barcelona
“That would be a catastrophe”: Shocking moment for BVB national player

With the score at 2:3, BVB ran against FC Barcelona and threw everything forward. In the last second there was another great chance – but it ended painfully.
BVB is worried about Nico Schlotterbeck. The Borussia central defender was injured in the last minute of stoppage time in the Champions League clash against FC Barcelona on Wednesday evening. When the score was 2:3, BVB once again threw everything forward and got another free kick cross from the left side.
Schlotterbeck rose into the air in the center but headed the ball over the goal. But a split second later came the shocking moment. The central defender twisted his ankle when landing and had to be treated immediately. The national player immediately held his ankle.
Schlotterbeck was taken off the field on a stretcher with his hands in front of his face. A bitter blow for the injury-plagued BVB, where the other two central defenders, Niklas Süle and Waldemar Anton, were also missing.
The fans saw him and the other players off with applause. Captain Emre Can said on DAZN: “I hope it’s not something bad. He was definitely in pain.” DAZN expert Michael Ballack ventured a first guess: “The outer ligament is probably affected, the syndesmotic ligament can also be affected.”
For coach Nuri Şahin, an injury break for Schlotterbeck would be a serious blow, as Niklas Süle, a central defender, has already been out for months. That’s why midfielder Emre Can had to help out in the center of defense. Şahin therefore said on DAZN: “It would be a catastrophe if he (Schlotterbeck, editor’s note) is also out now. Let’s see, I’ll wait for the diagnosis. I’ve seen the pictures too, that doesn’t look so good.”
BVB still has two league games left before the winter break. On Sunday, TSG Hoffenheim will be guests at Signal Iduna Park, and a week later they will travel to VfL Wolfsburg.
