“You still inspire people, including me. “I love you so much,” her ex-husband tells her.
On Tuesday, December 10th, Meg White celebrated her 50th birthday. Her former The White Stripes bandmate and ex-husband Jack White didn’t miss out on this occasion and congratulated her extensively via Instagram. He also took up an old gag again.
“There is only one of you”
The 49-year-old US musician shared an older Polaroid picture of Megan Martha White, as her full name is, on his Instagram account and wrote: “Happy 50th birthday to my big sister, the great Meg White . There’s only one of you, Meggo, they’ve broken the mold. You still inspire people, including me. I love you so much. -Jack III”
A fine gesture when you consider that although the two once played together in a fairly successful rock band, they divorced in 2000 after four years of marriage and officially declared the White Stripes disbanded in 2011. According to rumors, the two artists from Michigan did not speak to each other for a while.
With a wink
In the meantime, Jack White, who already has a tour plan in place for 2025 with his solo project, keeps finding kind words for his former bandmate and partner. He also defended her when a tweet calling Meg White a “bad” drummer went viral.
For his birthday greeting, Jack White even brought out the brother-sister joke from that time. When the White Stripes’ debut album came out, they told the same gag to the press and anyone who would listen to it – even though the Whites were very much married at the time.
Get out of the business
How Meg White celebrated her 50th is unclear. She neither officially uses social media nor is she publicly active in the music business. The Grosse Pointe Farms-born musician went into hiding more and more after the end of the White Stripes. The last known information about her is that she was married to Jackson Smith, Patti Smith’s son, from 2009 to 2013.
