Ferrari announced on Tuesday a multi-year agreement with Andretti Formula Racing to support the Cadillac team’s Formula 1 entry with power units from 2026. Mario Andretti, board director of the new team, recently described Ferrari as the “preferred choice”.

The team, run by TWG Global – the new operator of Andretti Global – and General Motors, was provisionally accepted last month as Formula 1’s 11th team for the 2026 season. Final confirmation is still pending.

General Motors (GM) will operate the team under the Cadillac brand. As part of the previously rejected Andretti project, which was not accepted as the eleventh team, GM had announced that it wanted to develop its own drive.

However, this project should not be implemented until 2028, which required an alternative drive solution for the first two years of entry.

A statement from Ferrari said about the future collaboration in Formula 1: “Ferrari today announces a multi-year agreement, effective from 2026, with Andretti Formula Racing LLC, for the supply of power unit and transmission to the TWG Global and General Motors-led racing team.”

Ferrari with two customer teams in Formula 1

The decision to supply Cadillac with power units means that Ferrari will retain two customer teams beyond 2025. Haas remains closely linked to Ferrari, while Sauber will switch to Audi powertrains from 2026 when the team becomes the German manufacturer’s factory team.

For this new era of rules in Formula 1, GM and TWG Global’s project is also continuing to take shape: last week they announced the appointment of Graeme Lowdon, who once headed Virgin/Marussia/Manor, as team boss.

Lowdon has played a key role in the development of the project over the last three years and will lead the team as it enters Formula 1.
