The province of Drenthe has awarded a subsidy of 312,000 euros to the ‘Help in and around schools’ program. This initiative focuses on the mental health of young people and aims to better connect education, healthcare and the local network.
The initiators want to create an environment in which young people feel safe and supported and in which tailor-made youth care and prevention are organised. It is often the case that there are long waiting lists in youth care, which sometimes means that assistance for young people with psychological pressure is limited.
While young people are more often confronted with problems such as fear of failure, bullying and stress. The program wants to change this situation by offering young people help earlier and in an accessible way, for example through a walk-in facility where young people can always go.
The plan for the municipality of Midden-Drenthe and the Dr. Nassau College starts at the Volta secondary school in Beilen and runs from 2024 to 2027. After completion in 2027, the program will be included in the municipality’s plans, so that it will have a structural follow-up.
