“It looks like a ninja storming in,” the 33-year-old woman from Hoogeveen said about herself in the images of a stabbing incident on April 20 in a home in Hoogeveen. She stabbed a 16-year-old boy several times with a knife. The woman was sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder.
Wearing black clothing and a balaclava and sunglasses, the woman, together with a friend, rode a fat bike to the house where the 16-year-old was staying. She had been harassed by the boy all evening via text messages and social media, the woman said. She had also drunk far too much alcohol. She did not answer the question to the judge about what possessed her to take a knife with her.
The door was answered by another teenager. “He looked pleased because he had met girls,” the suspect remembered. She stormed past him and stabbed the victim five times. The injury remained limited. “He was lucky that he was wearing thick clothing,” the prosecutor said. “A bizarre case involving an adult woman stabbing a 16-year-old boy several times,” she said.
The teenager was hit several times lightly in the upper body. The suspect did not want to stab him, she said during the court hearing. “I wanted to warn him to stop spreading stories about me.” The public prosecutor cannot believe that. “She catches him off guard by stabbing him directly. She does that with strength and full conviction.”
According to the prosecutor, it was not on impulse. “After a whole evening of contact, she decides to go that way. She disguises herself and takes a knife with her.” This is sufficient evidence for attempted murder, the officer says. The drink makes the woman unable to control her emotions. Drink makes her reckless and transgressive. She was therefore partly accountable. The prosecutor believes that the woman risked her life for gossip.
The woman then showed great remorse. She spoke to the victim a few weeks after the incident. “I cried because I didn’t think I was capable of doing this. It also hurt me to see that he had become afraid of me,” she said. According to her lawyer, alcohol played a major role in the incident and the woman did not expect that she would lose her mind as a result. She immediately stopped drinking afterwards.
The lawyer asked the court to take more into account the psychological report and that the woman needs help. She believes attempted murder has not been proven, which means the sentence should be lower. The verdict is on December 24.
