“We see that we are in the middle of a climate crisis, there is extreme weather everywhere and that will only get worse if we continue to emit CO₂. We believe that large companies such as KLM are doing too little, and that is why we say to the Netherlands and to KLM: stop stop polluting and fly less,” says Wouter Lemm of Greenpeace.

While companies have recently invested heavily in cleaner and quieter aircraft, fleet renewal hardly produces any profit, according to Lemm. “KLM says a lot, but we call those green fairy tales.”

Attenuated shrinkage

Minister Barry Madlener of Infrastructure and Water Management announced last week that next year 478,000 flights per year will be possible at Schiphol, instead of the intended 467,000 flights.
