Kjell Wätjen is one of the biggest talents in central midfield at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund. But under Nuri Sahin he hasn’t had a chance at all with the BVB professionals this season – which has mainly to do with recent injuries. Nevertheless, there was recently an initial conversation between player and coach.
BVB youngster Kjell Wätjen is not worried about his prospects at Borussia Dortmund. A recent conversation with BVB head coach Nuri Sahin also showed him this.
“I recently spoke to Nuri to say that everything is fine,” the 18-year-old told “Ruhr Nachrichten”: “I also hear from outside that things are going well.”
Wätjen is predicted to have a great future at Borussia Dortmund. Nevertheless, the homegrown team under Sahin has so far only played a single minute of play in the current Bundesliga season. He was only used in the home game against FC St. Pauli (2-1).
BVB talent Wätjen: “Of course you think about it from time to time…”
At the start of the season, the eight-man made it into the BVB squad several times, but he was only used twice in the 3rd league for the 2nd team. At the beginning of November he suffered a muscle injury that put him out of action for around a month. He only celebrated his comeback in BVB II’s away game in Hanover (0-2).
Wätjen on his mixed start to the season: “Of course you think from time to time, couldn’t I play anymore? But then on the other hand I think to myself: At the end of the day, you’re still in your second U19 year, playing in the 3rd league and mixing With the professionals. It’s a good step. I also notice that it’s getting better and better. That’s why I’m completely at peace with myself.”
Now, first of all, he is happy that he can go “full throttle” on the pitch again: “I’m fit again.”
