After the end of the 2024 season, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 627 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A players. Palmeiras talent and future Chelsea player Estêvão remains at the top, once again extending his lead as the most valuable player in Brazil. Aside from Estêvão, several players who play for Copa Libertadores winners and Brazilian champions Botafogo have also increased their market value.
“Estêvão was the main protagonist of Brazilian football in 2024, even in a team full of stars and mature players like Palmeiras,” said Marcos Watts, Area Manager Brazil at Transfermarkt. “Without him, coach Abel Ferreira’s team would never have fought for a title this season. At 17, Estêvão has better stats than Neymar at the same age and shows that he is well on his way to becoming a big name in the Seleção.” Estêvão’s market value increases by 25 percent from 40 to 50 million euros, making Chelsea’s transfer fee of 34 million euros look like a bargain.
While Estêvão is the player who dominates all the headlines, Botafogo was the club that shone in Brazil. Botafogo won the Copa Libertadores with a 3-1 win against Atlético Mineiro in Buenos Aires. Over the weekend, Botafogo secured their first league title since 1994. Not surprisingly, several Botafogo stars such as Igor Jesus (+9m to 15m), Jefferson Savarino (+3m to 9m), Marlon Freitas ( +3 million to 7 million) and John Victor (+3.5 million to 7 million) received an upgrade.
Market values Brazil: Botafogo shines – Luiz Henrique among big winners
The player who stood out the most at Botafogo was Luiz Henrique. “Luiz Henrique is a rebirth of Brazilian football,” said Watts. “After an unsuccessful spell with Betis in Spain, he returned to Brazil with high expectations of becoming the biggest star at Botafogo. He was the Libertadores’ best player, became a key player in the club’s title win, came into the spotlight of the Seleção and earned a regular place in coach Dorival Júnior’s squad.” Henrique’s market value increased by 37.5 percent from 16 million 22 million euros. This makes him Botafogo’s second most valuable player behind Thiago Almada (27 million) and one of Brazil’s five most valuable players.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
