Actor Mark Withers has died. The actor, who was last seen in “Stranger Things,” among others, was 77 years old.
Mark Withers died on November 22, 2024, his family announced. The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.
Withers’ daughter Jessie said via “Variety”: “He faced his illness with the same strength and dignity with which he practiced his craft. He left behind a legacy of warmth, humor and dedication, along with his remarkable ability to make every role unforgettable.”
The text also said: “His enduring talent and commitment to the industry will be remembered by colleagues, friends and fans alike.”
Mark Withers has had numerous TV roles
Although Mark Withers’ roles were often rather small, he left behind a wide repertoire of film and series appearances in well-known projects. In the eighties he played the role of Ted Dinard in “The Denver Clan” (1981), Peter Colcourt in “Kaz & Co” (1978–1979) and in eight episodes of the still ongoing soap opera “Zeit der Longing” (1986–1987).
Withers also had roles in “Magnum” (1982). “Dallas” (1987), “Criminal Minds” (2011), “True Blood” (2013) and “Reckless” (2014). A younger, Netflix-savvy audience will probably know him from the streaming hits “Sense8” (2017-2018) and “Stranger Things” (2016). In the latter program he played the role of coroner Gary, who is supposed to carry out the autopsy on Will Byers’ supposed corpse, in the fourth episode of the first season, “Chapter Four: The Body”.
