Rums, that worked. Fortuna Düsseldorf sends Eintracht home with a 0-5 defeat. The mood is down.

That was nothing – everyone at Eintracht Braunschweig agreed after the 5-0 debacle at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Midfielder Robin Krauße spoke of a “black day” that his team had on Sunday. With no plan, no clue and no enthusiasm, the BTSV professionals surrendered to their fate and received a severe shot across the bow just a few weeks before Christmas.

After just eleven minutes the game was practically decided. It was 0:3 because Eintracht completely missed the opening phase. “Unfortunately I don’t have any words for what we did,” said Krauße after the game, with no idea what exactly it could have been. “If you score three goals in such a short time, the plug is pulled.”

The fact that two more goals were conceded made the disaster complete. Coach Daniel Scherning’s ruthless analysis: They presented themselves in a way that shouldn’t be done and were “hopelessly inferior in every area of the game”.

And the brave supporters in the stands, who had loudly supported the team for large parts of the game, also demonstratively turned their backs on the game in stoppage time. During the game, the fans kept chanting “We want to see you fight.”

The dissatisfaction with Eintracht’s non-performance became much clearer on social media. “Incredible performance. Slow, slow, underwhelming – absolutely inappropriate for the current situation,” said a comment on Instagram. “Really shocking,” someone else commented.

Quite a few are now also demanding personnel consequences. At least it is clear that the pressure on those responsible around coach Scherning will not be lessened before the last two pre-Christmas games. Since the ray of hope against Hamburger SV (3:1) at the beginning of November, there have been four winless games in a row.

The only uplifting thing: Eintracht is still one point ahead of the relegation zone in 15th place in the second division table. After the Düsseldorf disaster, sports director Benjamin Kessel is still clear: “We can’t perform like we did today, it has nothing to do with the 2nd Bundesliga.” Everything will be analyzed during the winter break. Now we still have two important games ahead of us with the duels against SV Elversberg (December 15th) and 1. FC Nürnberg (December 21st).
