“Unprofessional” things on the part of the film crew and David’s own perfectionism seem to delay the planned documentary.
Work on a Netflix documentary about Shirin David has been underway since 2023. At first it was expected that the series would appear in 2024. But now the release date seems to be pushed further back. In a video, the rapper now explains what it’s all about.
Not easy to “make a good artist documentary”
So she started on the platform on December 3rd TikTok to say: “We started making this documentary while on tour last year. The pressure is extremely high to make a good artist documentary.” In David’s opinion, you only have “this one documentary in your life.” Given their young age, it is also very early for a documentary series, as people simply have not “finished living” their lives at this time.
David fired their first team
In addition, work with the first film team probably didn’t get off to a good start. David continued: “And the first documentary came with the first team, with the first production, with the first director and I let myself be filmed and so on and so forth. A lot of things went unprofessionally. I saw the first things and said, if this is going to be the documentary, I don’t want it.” The 29-year-old then had to change the entire team, which caused the recording to be delayed for six months.
“It scares me, but it excites me”
Now the shoot has started again and the “Belly Legs Butt” interpreter is now happy again. However, she also speaks of the difficulties of being constantly accompanied by a film crew and of making one’s entire private life visible to the public. David continues: “I do my entire career myself, I edit myself, I show myself, I know exactly how I want to see myself. So now there’s a team of five people coming into your apartment, accompanying you while you’re stressed, while you’re under pressure, while you’re at work, privately, when you’re worried, when you’re sad, when you’re happy you, with your family, your mom. And films you doing it. Getting involved in it is just like that… I just know that there aren’t perfect sides of me to be seen and not the most likeable ones either.”
This experience was not an easy thing for the singer. She’s probably working hard to gain trust and give up control sometimes. In addition, it was all “damn intimate” because she would show a large part of her life. Nevertheless, she is looking forward to this film. “It scares me, but it excites me,” she said on TikTok.
There is still no concrete release plan.
